Beyond Summer. Building Community and Continuity
MedReimagined: Beyond Summer. Building Continuity in Empowering Scholars & Transforming Healthcare
[Press Release Baltimore, November 15, 2023] – MedReimagined, an innovative education-of-healthcare startup, continues to build on its success with partnerships with Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library and its second major investments from a prestigious venture philanthropy group this year. MedReimagined identifies middle and high school students from communities facing the greatest health disparities and nurtures their aspirations to become future physicians from middle school through medical school.
Building on its successful national summer programming in 2023, MedReimagined is proud to announce its inclusion in another prestigious and innovative cohort assembled by New Schools, a venture philanthropy dedicated to building better education systems. The New Schools Edge Fund has a focus on investing in innovations that help schools recover and rebuild from the pandemic. The Edge team found MedReimagined's commitment to uplifting healthcare leaders from historically underserved communities and addressing communities affected by the pandemic with advanced coursework rather than defaulting to remediation resonated with New School’s renewed emphasis on equity and excellence in education innovation. “New Schools has been a fixture in education philanthropy for 25 years. Their reaffirmation of their core values in a time where advances in equity in education are seemingly being eroded is significant” said Medreimagined co-founder Khalid Smith. Smith went on to specifically site New Schools’ full-throated defense of racial equity and investing in leaders of color. “We both believe that when it comes to equity, there’s enough for everyone”. The partnership between MedReimagined and New Schools strengthens the overall doctor community and addresses the growing need for early education solutions to create pipelines of diverse healthcare leaders.
As Medreimagined expands nationally, we’re also mindful to continue to build deeper partnerships where we are. Building off a successful summer of serving over 300 Baltimore city middle schoolers, MedReimagined is proud to embark on a partnership with Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Library to offer free Biomedical Saturday courses to middle school students with an interest in medicine. Dr. Myers emphasized that this is just the beginning of MedReimagined's journey. These Saturday courses will continue to expand our offerings to more students in Baltimore and eventually create opportunities for continuity with students that take our summer offerings and would like continue with deeper courses of study during the school year”. “We remain committed to our unwavering goal to address the need for 55,000 missing Black doctors that can make a transformative impact on healthcare outcomes in underserved communities.”
